Before Foundation

The application process for your Foundation School usually begins late October/early November of your final year at medical school.

If you want to apply for an Academic Foundation Training Post, then this process starts even earlier, during your penultimate year at medical school. Before you can apply, you also need to check that you are eligible.

The Foundation Programme website has full details of how to apply.

Applying to King's

If you want to come to King's for your Foundation Training, you will have to apply to the South Thames Foundation School (STFS). In recent years, 90-95% of applicants who put STFS as their first choice have been successful in obtaining a place.

Please make every effort to fill in your online application as well as possible; although the odds for getting into STFS may be quite good, your ranking, based on your application form, will determine the likelihood of you getting the Trust and rotation that you want at FY1 and at FY2.

Once you have been accepted into STFS, you will be invited to the STFS Fair, usually held at Guy's Hospital early in the year. Every Trust in STFS has a stall at this event.

You get a chance to meet several members of the Foundation Programme Training team at the fair, plus one or two current FY1 trainees. Come along and talk to us about any aspect of Foundation Training at King's
